Earth Hour

March 28 2009 the hour of the Earth. It was the day when all of Greece shut all the unnecessary lights in an attempt to save some future energy for the planet. Nafpaktos, which recently has taken part in serious efforts for the protection of the planet and the environment, was expected to do no less than to participate in that too. Despite being an ordinary Saturday evening, the citizens showed a lot of interest by turning off the lights of their houses and going to the port for an hour, most of them holding candles which made the scenery look a lot better, and stood up for the planet and the future of their children and their children’s children. The local council turned off the lamps of quite a few lamp posts giving the example and the rest of the houses followed. At the port ,as promised, there was an entertainment of drum beating (which by the way became boring and annoying after a certain period of time but what can we do) and also fires were lit along the castle of the port making it an extraordinary night. The only thing to feel sorry for is that it was only once, only for an hour but it sure did help and gave the planet a few more years.
