The Importance of History

Greece is one of the most ancient and most significant countries int the whole world. It has about 5000 years of history, in other words fifty centuries. It begins from 3000 B.C. It stops in 1453, when the Turks took over Byzantium for 400 years until 1821, when Greeks tried to win back their freedom with a revolution.

The revolution started in 1821 and ended in 1829. It is one of the most significant periods of our history, if not the most important. Of course this period had a far-reaching effect on my country because it is the reason I am free and the reason I am writing this essay. Otherwise I would be speaking Turkish. Greek people like Kolokotronis and Karaiskakis gave big battles and most of them even gave their lives.

Furthermore Greek's history is not just some stories about our nation. History helps us form an opinion by learning about facts and judging them. Also by studying history we learn from our ancestor's mistakes.

To summarize I would like to add that history repeats itself. So in today's problems we can learn from our ancestors before us. History is essential for people because it talks about our ancestors and their acts.
