B2 Lower classes of our students participated in the Hellenic American Union Essay Contest "Going Green: Helping to Create Environment Friendly Schools". Here are some of their suggestions.
"It's very important for the children to learn how to live in an environmentally friendly place in a small age. This can be done through practical everyday methods implemented by both students and teachers..."

"Another thing we can do is to lend the old school books to future generations instead of burning or destroying them. The government doesn't have to make new ones and waste more energy for it."

"If we do this we automatically stop cutting down trees which produce oxygen, the most important gas which allows us to live. This way we would help to stop the economic crisis in Greece, because we could save a lot of money that would be useful for other things."

"Saving energy is an everyday and practical way to help the environment. First of all we can turn off the lights, when we leave a classroom. Secondly, everyone has to turn off the computer when he doesn't use it. Finally if we don't need the heating we can switch it off when we leave the classroom"

"Another way of making our schools more environmentally friendly is to plant trees and flowers in the playground or on the roof of the schools. Maybe students can become involved in "green programms"... It will be a fantastic experience not only for the students, but for the teachers as well."
