YOUTH PUBLIC PARTICIPATION AND INVOLVEMENT IN PROTECTING EUROPE'S ENVIRONMENT

Youth in Action – R.Valcea 10/10/13-19/10/13
During the summer I received a phone call from Mrs. Kyttea about a project organized by the European programme Youth in Action that would take place in Romania. I was invited to participate. I accepted without giving it a second thoughts and started preparing for the trip .
The project was called ‘’ Youth Public Participation and Involvement in Protecting Europe’s Environment’’. As you can see from the title, the project was about protecting the environment and we also took some courses about project management.
Along with Vicki and Mary, the other two representatives from Greece, we left Greece on 10th October and at about 11 o’clock we arrived in Romania where we met our guide for the day, Elisa. Elisa picked us up and along with the participants from Croatia, Turkey and Italy we headed to our hotel in Ramnicu Valcea, which is about 2 and a half hours away from Bucharest. We arrived at the hotel and ten of the best days of our lives were about to begin.
During these 10 days a lot of beautiful things happened. Not all of them can be written here so I am going to point out the most important ones and the ones that became the reasons why we are never going to forget this trip.
Apart from the educational part of the trip, which of course was an awesome experience that taught us a lot of new things, we all became a family. After the first couple of days, when we were still strangers, we began to get to know each other and we became a team. We worked daily on our courses but we had fun at the same time because we were together. From the time we had breakfast till we slept at nighttime we were all together and we had a really good time.
We took many trips to monasteries and the countryside of R.Valcea. We were impressed by the forests and the landscapes of Romania as well as by the similarities that Romania has with our country. We learned many things about each other’s cultures too. That was mainly achieved by learning interesting new words and phrases in each other's language such as ‘’ prieka, Şerefe,’’ and others that can’t be written here.
Another thing that helped us understand each other’s cultures were the international evenings that were planned. The ones that did go according to plan were really educational and fun at the same time!
The main goal of this whole training course was to to present the projects we had prepared during these 10 days at the city Mall Center,. We were divided into groups according to our zodiac signs and four groups were formed: Earth, Water, Fire and Wind. We pointed out some of the biggest environmental problems of our times and we tried to find solutions using what we learned about solving a problem and project management.
We also worked on crafts with recycled materials and presented them too. The presentation at the Mall went well and we had the opportunity to inform all of the people who were at the Mall that day about our projects and how they can help to protect Europe’s environment. Apart from the environmental education we received, we also improved our language skills and we learned how to cooperate with people from other countries.
I had a great time as I am sure that everyone else did too. I certainly couldn’t hope for better company! Here you can see the result after ten days in Romania and a perfect example of the word ‘’TEAM’’

Two months ago we went to Romania for an environmental project. There we met a lot of people from different countries. We learned many things like swot and the tree of problems. We shared our cultures and we learned about other countries. Every night was dedicated to a country so we all had the opportunity to give to everyone else a little piece from our country. We had a great time and I'd really love to go again!

On 10th October we went to Romania for an environmental project. We were there for 10 days. They went by really quickly. The training sessions we had were really good. We had to create a presentation as a team and present it. The presentation was about an environmental problem. We had to talk about the problem of deforestation and find solutions to this problem. We met people from Croatia, Turkey, Italy and Latvia and got together as one big team. We went to some monasteries and other places of Ramnicu Valcea. I hope to have many experiences like this. We thank you for everything.
